I had the wonderful pleasure of photographing this lovely couple in December of 2016. We drove up to a mountain in San Diego County called Palomar Mountain and were met with heavy fog accompanied by a bit of rain. It was clear to me that we had an opportunity in this weather to create something very unique for these two. I wanted these photos to- like relationships have a way of doing- expose the wonder, perseverance, and intimacy that weaves a relationship together. We spent the entire day exploring the mountain from Palomar Mountain State Park to the town of Julian as well as Lake Cuyamaca together. Towards the end of the day, I spotted an area where the surrounding mountains were met with a beautiful bed of golden fields. It would've been easy to keep driving and head to our last planned stop of the day. However, we decided to pull over and see what we could get out of this beautiful area. The photos we ended up taking there in that field are among my favorites of the entire day.
Phoenyx and Makayla are truly exceptional people. I have known both of them for quite a while now, and something great that I notice about the two of them is the support that they give one another.
Phoenyx is in a band called Modern Me and Makayla is a photographer herself. Each of these careers require a great deal of hard work and time in order to be successful. These two are constantly finding ways to encourage each other to do what they love, whether its Makayla coming to each of Phoenyx's shows, or Phoenyx posing for Makayla's camera, these two have a foundation built on support.
Thank you Phoenyx and Makayla for your inspiration as a couple and for your friendship.
